The lifeboat it was on was among those used to rescue passengers from the Titanic. The crispy and historic tidbit pulled in roughly $23,000 at an auction in the UK over the weekend. James Fenwick is identified as the person who saved the cracker all those years ago, keeping the item as a souvenir after the ship he was on, the SS Carpathia, came to the aid of Titanic survivors. Exactly which lifeboat the edible was on remains unknown. Said a representative of Henry Aldridge &; Son, the auction house that handled the sale of the cracker and other Titanic offerings, “The interest in the items reflected the worldwide nature of Titanic memorabilia. They captured collectors' imagination."
